Pavilion Dance South West is a National Dance Development supporting dance strategy and activity development in the South West and representing the South West Dance sector nationally.
It works collaboratively with partners across the South West who share a commitment to develop and sustain opportunities for people in the region to make, present, watch and participate in Dance.
Pavilion Dance South West launched Pavilion Dance in September 2010, a national centre of excellence for dance located behind the Pavilion Theatre and facing the gardens and the sea front in the centre of Bournemouth.
This new venue includes a state of the art 200 seat studio theatre space, designed specifically for dance, and two excellent dance studio spaces. It provides the region and the nation with first rate facilities for artists to perform and create new work and explore interdisciplinary practice, for practitioners to develop and share creative engagement activities and for the public to become regular dance audiences and participants.
The combination of a brand new dance house and an explicit art form development remit offers the south west region and its dance sector an exciting new dynamic to benefit from and to celebrate.
Vision: We champion a fresh approach to dance by dissolving boundaries to create and present incredible experiences for audiences and participants. We support and develop those who already love dance and inspire those who have yet to discover it.
Mission: We celebrate and encourage dance nationally, building strong local and regional partnerships to connect it to a diverse and broad public, through excellent performance and participation opportunities.
Values: Generous, Passionate, Inspiring, Inclusive, Fresh
Pavilion Dance South West's current priorities are:
Bounce: To inspire and thrill children and young people through dance
Grow: To nurture and support the dance workforce to respond creatively to audiences and markets for their work
Shift: To develop and re model current ideas for commissioning, producing and distributing dance
Share: To champion and support an audience’s right to feel connected and engaged with dance
Breathe: To advocate for and embed dance in society’s health and well being provision"
